Developing a Camera System on the fly

May 2005
In the process of covering a residential internal fitout for Apparitions Group P/L we developed a robust, easy to use system, built from off the shelf components making it as cost effective as possible. This prototype has proved its worth in the dusty environment of a building site.

Put the unit in a position that doesn't get in the way of the project and turn it on.
It can be preconfigured for any frame rate from 1 frame every 4 seconds upwards. Special exposure settings can be set e.g. long exposures at night with instant feedback of results.
It can be mounted in any position - a tripod, a mast, wall or pole mounted and operated with a simple remote on/off switch.
The system is disigned for very low power consumption and the battery will power the unit for up to 7 days. Attach solar and it will run indefinately.
It will record up to 4 gig of photographic resolution data.
If mounted outside it simply means building the system in a Conway weatherproof housing.
Weighting in at 5 kg (a little more than the battery) makes it easy to handle. Mounting takes one bolt and the unit can be panned and tilted before locking off into the final position.
We have concurrently been researching high resolution high frame rate systems and such a design can incorporate the technology.
This unit does not use a computer as the driver. Our lead products do however the compromise has always been longer interval times. Perfect for construction projects computer controlled systems offer many benefits over this basic unit, deigned for its own unique criteria.
